Eager To Get Started

Eager To Get Started

My wonderful new students waiting for their Absolute Beginners workshop. All have little or no machine or sewing experience so guess they may have felt a bit nervous at this point!

looks like you also took them through the process of selecting & purchasing fabric, which have always thought i’d do as part of a beginner’s classes. did you? did you think it was helpful?? given this looks like possibly a quilter’s fabric store (just guessing!) they wouldn’t have been distracted by dress fabric – that might be overwhelming for some!
thanks for all the info – do hope your ladies are all back, with friends, for sewing 102 with you!

D’el. Give the, a few choices of fabric as I include all materials in the price of the workshop, but I make sure they get a good range of choice and once in the workshop we chat about warp, weft, bias etc just to help them get a feel for our medium. To me it has a life and each fabric must be treated according to it’s needs. Mmmm now I am sounding a bit mad, never mind I’m happy in my special, mad place! Xx

Not mad, but very sane, imho. Don’t think many go into warp & weft, which is so… basic. And gives such a good foundation for explaining bias. Hope you stick in a few words about quality, too, and let them see & feel some lower quality & some higher quality fabrics. That’s also been something lacking, imho. Nothing beats a good quality cotton, wool, viscose, etc! And it handles so much better! Thank you so much for an insight into your class! xx del
