Bug Gets Involved In My Annual Leave

🤒😷 got to love this time of year with tummy bugs abound NOT! I had major crocheting plans for my weeks leave and bar 2 days where I couldn’t even remember my name I did get to amigurumi yee ha!

Big old boooooo for back to work tomorrow, whilst I love my job it does rather get in the way of my addiction.

The Emmi Lou pattern from Bubbles and Bongo has become a firm fav with loved ones so I’ve made one for mum in law for her 72nd birthday, she informs me it’s her favourite of all her gifts….. Number one Daughter in Law 😂 Baby A our great niece wants one for her birthday and I made a surprise one for HH cousin who had gushed over pics of my earlier makes.

Doodah Millie also by Bubbles and Bongo turned out rather well also so all in all a most excellent week for makes. Happy days 😃

Darling Dellis at curlsnskirls sent me a package…. I’m in love with the green satin drawstring bag, have a few ideas for its use.  See the little cotton crochet squares? Dellis did a couple for me before and I won’t use anything else for my bathroom cleaning tasks, mother are perfect. These smaller siblings have already found use around the house.  I have one for wiping my iPad clean, another for my mirrors and the others are is the kitchen.  Super duper useful. THANK YOU my lovely friend. Xx

Aurora Duckus Humongous

I have delved into the world of Amigurumi on a complete whim and in turn given myself yet another obsession!

image

I found Bubbles and Bongo on etsy after DD2 tagged me on Facebook with a picture of a darling ickle unicorn stating she needed one. After a bit of tinterweb research I found the source of this beautiful pattern. A Mum and Daughter duo who design simply gawjus patterns that are super simple to follow (more on that in a minute) at really reasonable prices.

Erinna the daughter half of the duo can be found on Instagram @littleaquagirl while Mummy, Rosemary @petite_tini

My desire to get going didn’t include a rational thought process WHATS NEW I hear you cry🤗.  Wrong size hook, incorrect yarn and burning desire at hand I cracked on.

Now given how many years crafting experience I have you’d think at the very least I’d think colour themes through…..DONT BE DAFT, waaaaay to keen to make a start.

As Aurora’s head started to grow (and grow and grow) it occurred to me I may have been a bit hasty, but hey whoever believed in the act in haste, repent a leisure saying?

Aurora was getting humongous and to add insult to injury the colours (well it’s what I had available and I’m sticking to that defence) started to make her look more than a tad duck like. HH encouraged me to keep going, dang that man knows how to smooth my feathers.

I got the shivers everytime I glanced over at ‘the’ head.  It’ll be alright once I’ve seen the mane on I told myself.  She stopped looking quite so duck like and took on the form of Woodstock from Snoopy DABNABIT …… Dear Sewing /Amigurumi Gods pleeeeeease sprinkle some lucky dust over here.

Dont know what you think but I think they were listening.  Now she’s fully constructed albeit in humongous proportions I love her and more importantly DD2 thinks she’s the sweetest thing ever PHEW 😂

Ive started Emmi Lou now CORRECT HOOK, CORRECT YARN and cool colours, she’s coming on a treat, truly beautiful imho!

Can’t recommend Bubbles and Bongo patterns highly enough.  They are simple to follow with fantastic descriptions and pictures to help you along the way. I’ve already purchased 4 patterns ADDICTED!

For your perusal and amusement herewith is photographic evidence of my journey.

BTW my new yarns which arrived in a gawjus organza bag are from the Drops Cotton Light range at a mere 95p per  ball. They are 50% cotton and 50% polyester from

Wool Warehouse

An Offering …

Finally have a wee offering after weeks of being busy doing ……….. mmmmm what have I been doing? Me thinks rather a lot of tail chasing which is neither fun or productive 😳

Did nab a couple of lovely bits of fabric at Walthamstow with DD1 and feel a medal is deserved as I for once in a lifetime only purchased what I actually needed *nods in respect to oneself* 🤗

In addition to fabric for a dress for my friends wedding yesterday I wanted a fabulously bling trim. The joy of a same sex wedding, if I can’t dress in super bling there, then no better opportunity will ever present itself.

Found the perfect trim at £4 per meter which I thought was a bit pricey until I found something similar but not as pretty IMHO on tinterweb at £20 per meter. My purchase became an instant bargain.

The sew was shall we say, a sweary Mary experience as the Devore was like sewing spiders web BUT it paid off as I got to utter those most satisfying words many times. “I made it” then watching the expressions such as ‘it’s witchcraft, clever, unbelievable etc’. Got to love those moments, they make up for past sewing tragedies.

Took my own advice after recent gaff with neckline shape and went for a very deep v neck, I was more than a little pleased with the end result.

It was wonderful to be with much loved friends and getting to see the last of the summer flowers and green trees before Autumn truly gets a grip.

#DontBeVainProtectYourBrain

just a very quick post to highlight a page that came up on my Facebook today called

Georgia On My Mind

Hugely brave family, especially Mum are sharing the experience following their 19 year old daughter Georgia slipping off of a skateboard without a helmet.

Georgia is in an enforced coma right now and outcome is unknown, yet through this the family are pushing the message home #DontBeVainProtectYourBrain.

I noticed in the picture of this gorgeous young woman that she sews! So I’m in the process of putting a little packet together of my treasures …. Vintage buttons, trims and a few other bits and bobs along with a note from us creatives to wish her and her family well. When she’s awake maybe the colours and textures will stimulate her brain and God willing she may even get to use them one day.

Mums video of 7th August at 19:41 whilst a tough watch is reason enough to go buy a helmet that fits your precious child and enforce with love, it’s use.

Spread the word lovely readers, let’s be sure we’ve done everything we can do raise awareness as to how VITAL head protection is on boards, scooters, skates and bikes.

Thanks for taking the time to read 💖

2 in 1 day …..

Well here I am again doing my creative therapy.

image

I’m not given to bad moods and/ or temper tantrums apart from when it’s hot, wet, cold, windy, daylight, nighttime, breathing etc ! I jest a ickle bit, I am a pretty even tempered sort

BUT today proved too much for even me the Ghandi of Bedfordshire. I will learn to stick to tried and tested methods when sewing. I was taught by 2 awesomely talented women, my beautiful late Mum and the very elegant Miss McGarry my needlework teacher at senior school. They taught me the ‘proper’ way. You know, the way that makes it a craft, a piece of art.

I let the technology of my over locker seduce me into cutting corners on the making of my gypsy skirt with its fan-dangled gathering foot. At first glance it was pretty clever and lightening quick. Head down like a seasoned Formula 1 driver, I revved the machine and threw myself headlong into the make.

Let me tell you, hung ho and horribly fool hardy, the finished garment is so far from the standard I would expect from myself.  The skirt photographs ok and will be perfectly functional for work but on close inspection the gathering is uneven and not full enough for my liking.

Enter Oscar award winning tantrum as I threw my toys out of the pram in a most spectacular fashion. Good job HH has been with me for 32 years, he knew exactly what noises to make, faces to pull and then soothe me back to a near state of sanity.  Tear stained, sweating and sweaty mary female was not a good look. Lesson learned. Stick to the true, time consuming and beautiful craft. No more short cuts for me. Back to the 2 rows of loose stitching lovingly and carefully gathered to perfection, pinned and sewn into place.

Attempt 2 tomorrow for DD1 minus tantrums, hiss fits, diva fits or whatever you prefer to call them. Yes it will take at least twice as long but for me, that’s where the love and satisfaction lay, producing something to be proud of rather than the constant reminder of being a lazy old corner cutter 😳

Now to sink into a gorgeous bubble bath, listen to some music and turn the mare into a dim memory.  Ohmmmmmmm 👌🏼

Grass Is Grass Is Grass ….

Oh no it isn’t.

Spotted a bouncy biting little black friend on the pup this morning so a prompt visit to vet to stop him turning into a full on flea bag. £67 later and one very stressed pup we swerved by the fields out back of our house before taking him home for a bath on this glorious white skied Summer’s day (blooming muggy though).

I know dear reader that you will understand when I say, nature is just full of art and I felt it necessary to take a few pics.

The nature strip along the fields is full of buzzy friends, this is where I picked a few stems of grass as they drifted in the breeze. As you can see, grass isn’t just grass, look how beautiful each head is. Natures perfection. The head of cows parsley as it turns to seed and the promise of fat juicy blackberries in the autumn. YUM!

Whilst on my nature appreciation march the pup and HH had a good old game, both as daft as each other ( because I’m so very sane ). You can see how happy they are, even I don’t get greeted with open arms! It’s a bit of a love affair in truth. That said it was lovely to have an hour or so of family time before getting back to boring old chores.

Have a lovely weekend where ever you are x

Hey Crazy Curious Complex Crafters …

… do you dear fellow creatives find yourselves turning your hand to just about any thing loosely related to the ‘arts and crafts’?

PHEW! I’m not alone as I sit here typing one fingered, left one as well! As I’m doing my own gel overlays. … Yep, I went and bought all the kit when I tired of paying daft money every 2 weeks to do something I jolly well knew I could do for myself. I’ve saved oodles🤗

Whilst down at our community vegetable garden earlier picking some strawberries and broad beans, I noticed old glass and metal artefacts that have been dug up during the planting of this little piece of heaven. My mind immediately went to how one of the worn but fancy pieces of iron work could be transformed into a mobile. Dual purpose of course, pretty and will help to keep the birds off of the seedlings.

It happens almost all of the time. See something discarded and I’m straight into up cycle, create something new and pretty mode. Can be a hinderence when it happens mid sentence or the like. Hey ho, I’ve got used to folk looking at me with that she’s away with the fairies look. 😍

My garden is a great source of peace and creativity. That said with the limited spare time HH and I have accompanied with the truly crap  awful weather we’ve had….. Lots of rain and very little sun has made the garden a near no go area. We’ve even had to fence it of from The Rt Horrible Pup (he’s huge) as he made it look as though we play rugby on it in the mornings followed by a game of 4 wheel drive agility in the afternoon . Pictures are for you to see how my now wild garden looks …. Not too shabby though huh?

Hope to have some more solid crafty things to show here after the weekend rather than the ramblings (like my garden) of my craft manic brain. Also hope to still have nails, don’t think you’re supposed to soak the old gel for quite as long as I have…. got a bit keen and distracted here. YIKES!

Not Been Totally Idle….

Been trying to keep my hand in with the crafts along with another wonderful holiday in Aruba where I finally snorkelled much to HH delight!

DD’s took me to Jackie the Musical, a 70’s themed evening of heart warming nostalgia based around th hugely popular Jackie magazine which was read by pretty much every young teen in the UK back in the 70’s. The music was a full ling a long of Hot Chocolate, Donny Osmond, Marc Bolan, David Cassidy to name a few. Of course we went in appropriate dress, both gypsy skirts knocked up by my own fair hand. A bottle of fizz between 2 of us guaranteed much more confident singing 😂

As you can se I tried to clean Aruba out of its shells…… Not a chance the beaches are FULL of them so I brought a bundle back for crafting and whilst chatting to my darling Dellis last week I started to string the citrine and shells as a trial. I have to say as a first attempt, made up in my head mobile I’m pretty darn pleased.

So that’s what I’ve been upto in a nut SHELL 🤗

UK Crochet Patterns

Lovely Loopsan tweeted this to us: a call for more blood donors. One day, you might be grateful for their help so perhaps think about donating to help someone else?

The NHS are running a campaign to raise awareness of blood donation and are asking knitters and crocheters to crochet drops of blood! But how cute are they?! Apparently something is happening with these crocheted drops in February …

Visit loopsan for more info and three free patterns!
