An Offering …

Finally have a wee offering after weeks of being busy doing ……….. mmmmm what have I been doing? Me thinks rather a lot of tail chasing which is neither fun or productive 😳

Did nab a couple of lovely bits of fabric at Walthamstow with DD1 and feel a medal is deserved as I for once in a lifetime only purchased what I actually needed *nods in respect to oneself* 🤗

In addition to fabric for a dress for my friends wedding yesterday I wanted a fabulously bling trim. The joy of a same sex wedding, if I can’t dress in super bling there, then no better opportunity will ever present itself.

Found the perfect trim at £4 per meter which I thought was a bit pricey until I found something similar but not as pretty IMHO on tinterweb at £20 per meter. My purchase became an instant bargain.

The sew was shall we say, a sweary Mary experience as the Devore was like sewing spiders web BUT it paid off as I got to utter those most satisfying words many times. “I made it” then watching the expressions such as ‘it’s witchcraft, clever, unbelievable etc’. Got to love those moments, they make up for past sewing tragedies.

Took my own advice after recent gaff with neckline shape and went for a very deep v neck, I was more than a little pleased with the end result.

It was wonderful to be with much loved friends and getting to see the last of the summer flowers and green trees before Autumn truly gets a grip.

#DontBeVainProtectYourBrain

just a very quick post to highlight a page that came up on my Facebook today called

Georgia On My Mind

Hugely brave family, especially Mum are sharing the experience following their 19 year old daughter Georgia slipping off of a skateboard without a helmet.

Georgia is in an enforced coma right now and outcome is unknown, yet through this the family are pushing the message home #DontBeVainProtectYourBrain.

I noticed in the picture of this gorgeous young woman that she sews! So I’m in the process of putting a little packet together of my treasures …. Vintage buttons, trims and a few other bits and bobs along with a note from us creatives to wish her and her family well. When she’s awake maybe the colours and textures will stimulate her brain and God willing she may even get to use them one day.

Mums video of 7th August at 19:41 whilst a tough watch is reason enough to go buy a helmet that fits your precious child and enforce with love, it’s use.

Spread the word lovely readers, let’s be sure we’ve done everything we can do raise awareness as to how VITAL head protection is on boards, scooters, skates and bikes.

Thanks for taking the time to read 💖

A Great Starter …

Just have to become a great finisher!

I find when my anxieties start to get the better of me I bury myself in some kind of crafty, creative project. It’s a pretty good therapy, well for me it is 😉

My my rainbow makers as I like to call them were my project last Sunday. I have more Swarovski crystals than any one human should have and it felt like a good time to use some of the stash along with some mini semi precious stones. A few crimp beads and jewellery wire….. hey presto a little collection to hand at a window that gets direct sunlight.  As if by magic lots of rainbows appear on my walls, floor and ceiling. Simple but very effective.

Theres another baby in my friendship group so another blanket has been started, got until December to finish it 😂

The fabric. Well as if I don’t have enough stashed I found some lovely cotton viscose on eBay for £3 per meter. My recent gypsy skirt makes have been such a success with DD1 I thought I’d make her a couple more. When the fabric arrived, this one really spoke to me, like really loudly. Yep you’ve guessed it, I’ve nabbed this one for myself and will start my own skirt later on, let’s hope my finishing brain is awake though 💤

Happy weekend fellow creatives xxx

It’s In The Bag ……

After quite some time now I have finally got around to doing another workshop at My Sewing Basket ….. Donna kept on at me and I gave way and made sure I allowed myself some time to run a workshop in making the wonderful padded tote bag that I originally saw on MissouriQuiltCo You Tube page ….. Fantastic tutorial that I have tweeked for my ease.

It translated really well for 4 wonderful ladies Margaret, Christine, Judy and Barbara.  All have varied levels of sewing skills but that worked to our advantage as it became a lovely support one another type day. It’s rewarding to watch people who start the day as strangers interact with one another and share skills and experiences.

As ever I under estimated how much time I needed!  Really I must always add an extra hour to allow for the lovely friendly banter that happens.

Excellent taste prevailed today with beautiful fabric choices as you can see and despite Margaret having to leave before she had finished, she has enough skill to finish at home and has promised a picture of her finished item.

I chose a fairly thick wadding so it gave us a few challenges but well worth it as the finished products were AWESOME 🙂

This is such a versatile  design, size up or down for various tasks : book bag, shopping tote, make up bag etc.

My previous variety of totes came along for the ride as a demonstration of how versatile the design is and the many fancy finishes you can put on for added personality.

To think I really didn’t like this fabric when my darling friend R chose it yet now it’s my most favourite 😉

At the end of the workshop my delightful ladies left with very professional looking totes and without exception all seemed very happy with their results so I really can’t ask for anymore can I?

Donna has already started on at me for the next workshop …….. Doesn’t she know I work?  A detail that she is keen to skip over and if I’m honest, I rather like ;). Makes me feel wanted ….. The chance to share my love of crafting is a gift….. One my darling Mum gave to me all those years ago.  Wouldn’t be fair to be selfish and keep it to myself now would it?

What do you think of the finished results my lovelies?

Father Forgive Me For I Have Sinned ….

… And keep on sinning! Bad Gal 😦

Here dearest reader I lay before you my confession for the day, the week,  ok the year!

In the workplace I am a highly disciplined person. To do lists that are tackled by priority, meet targets and deadlines as NT would I believe attest to. So how come in my home life does chaos rein?

Could it be the Gemini in me? That old two-sided personality … Or maybe the only child syndrome?

The attention span of a gnat quite frankly. Well in truth if things are going well I see it through to the bitter end BUT I can be given to tantrum if things go against me. Not the stamping, hissing type of a teen but the obstinate, petulant sort of a toddler!

Case in point … Hidden in the airing cupboard is a real kimono that I know Del will remember as she offered words of wisdom when I hit my wall.  I miss calculated on the belt, as a result just couldn’t turn it through (fabric isvery very old and quite delicate). Rather than be a grown up and listen to my buddy by Re cutting a wider version I hid it! There it has sat for a year … OMG a year!  It’s so close to finished but oh no Mrs cut off her nose to spite her face, there it still sits.

Fragile package by the cupboard in which NOBODY is allowed to go is a couple of cork boards to decorate as Del did.  So loved the effect I thought YEP I’m going to do a couple of them for DD2 for her photos BUT because I couldn’t find my staple gun, there they sit wrapped …. This one in my defence is just a couple of weeks old.

On the wardrobe door is the DD1 blanket which is a work in progress, as is the one hour kimono whose neckline is driving me berserk.  Theres the tantrum talk again 🙂 All I need to is bind the neck and front edge. Sewing machine is set up, have lovely satin bias from Walthamstow BUT it annoyed me so can’t bring myself to touch it.  What’s that all about LOSER!

How shameful is it that I have stash taking up valuable space in DD2 bedroom? Big bottom drawer MINE, top of wardrobe MINE ….. Drawer is Walthamstow, wardrobe is the carefully collected vintage fabrics. Not sure what caused that particular fit of sulks…. Think my brain finds it too painful to deal with so has erased the memory 😉

Attention span so pathetic I even meandered off from the actual pics you need as evidence and took pics of bling and stuff just because they please me.  Whilst I say I like order and method me thinks I am also a serial liar (to myself) if I spot a bit of blingage or a doobrie that makes me smile I have to fill a space and believe me, space is limited in my little piece of England.  Praise the Lord I married a man who accepts my foibles else I would have been a divorcee time ago!

The crochet heart thing started last night. DD2 has a much-loved cardigan that she just won’t bin so I started some granny square mid DD1 blanket action …. They are cool but then I thought what else could I do so You Tube got it.  There I found my desire, very quick but super effective crochet hearts. 7 in half an hour and more have followed this morning. Started stitching to the dying cardigan and at this point am very happy with the result, just a few more to do. Then it popped into my head, ENT kimono, sitting cut out in my living room. Now I love this lady like a sister so should be highly motivated to get it done so why the failure …… It’s Georgette like the kimono of failed neckline!

I lay before you my confession to being a serial starter and non finisher IF things don’t go my way.

Have fingers and toes crossed that I don’t stand alone in this affliction? I seek your absolution dear reader. Am I forgiven?

Happy Sunday x

Update picture .... The hearts and granny squares start the rescue :)

It’s In The Bag !

Having had a jolly good dose of the lurgies this week I am finally beginning to feel more like me. As I sat watching mind numbing daytime TV with hottie, blanket and pup for comfort, my sewing machine sitting at the other end of my living room was taunting me.

All neatly prepped for my oriental fabric bag which should have taken just a couple of short hours has turned into an epic torture myself week. Every day when I finally pulled myself out of bed I promised myself a bit of sewing ( the fix all medicine), but I just couldn’t seem to make it happen.  So in true creative’s style gave myself a sizable anxiety complex about being lazy and the usual blah blah blah! Why do we test ourselves when we are least able to cope with the test? Oops! Maybe that’s just me ….. am I alone in the ability to cause self-induced stress and anxiety?  AND why do I think about work when I’m home being all poorly? Sad Act I hear you cry 🙂

Sew today I finally sewed YEEEEHA! It was worth having everything cut and sitting there mocking me because it was as simple as plug in the machine and tally ho, off we go.  The MissouriQuiltCo from You Tube  that I have both used and mentioned in the past is the perfect, easy peasy way to make a most presentable and practical bag. Every time I use this method I am never disappointed, you could swing by You Tube and take a look. Some great little tutorials there.

Friend Del at curlsnskirls used to fantastic effect on her ‘Library Tote’ with some fabric I had sent previously. Here we go, a tangent ….. Note to self get next parcel finalised and sent. Have a few bits together but trying to find amongst my obscene sized stash a particular thingie to send.  I must refer to it as a thingie else the surprise will be spoiled 😉

What do you think of this tote being the next subject of an Absolute Beginners class? You may recall last year I did a few but with a simple cushion. Am thinking this tote would make a great starter for a beginner. Think any beginner would be happy to walk out from a 3 hour class clutching such a useful item!?

So dear reader, for your approval my oriental tote and a little doobrie with left over fabric. Said doobrie is perfect size for me to put all the vital miscellaneous dross I carry in my main handbag 🙂

Orient Themes….

I clearly am channelling all things orientesque. What with my one hour kimono madness of late I was hankering for something new so took a moazy on down to my friends shop in Dunstable, Bedfordshire called My Sewing Basket.

It’s safe to say dear reader that I am a bargain hunter and rarely will pay full retail on anything but it doesn’t stop me sniffing around like an old blood hound 🙂

Fortunately for MSB not me, the fabric you see here was just waaaay too much for me to resist. 100% cotton and a good solid weight I decided immediately to hang the cost and get .75m of each for a couple of tote bags as I only really have time for quick easy makes right now plus being more costly than I would normally pay £13.99/m I couldn’t make myself go for the full meter of each….. OK so I’m a bit tight …. I can take that criticism on the chin 🙂

MSB have the most awesome collection of quilting cottons (Del …. Would never get you out of there) every colour and theme you could ever imagine!

Oops! Get me, digressing by way of a change.

Anyways …. Tomorrow I hope to make time for at least one tote (a gal can NEVER have too many bags) and will pop a pic or ten here for your scrutinisation.

What are y’all up to this weekend? Any quick satisfying makes happening else where on the Planet?

Grrrrrrr ………. I Hate Sewing !!!!

Well this afternoon I do anyway.

Have you ever had one of those days when you just can’t get it right but rather than stop, plough on and really screw it up?

That’s me today.  Completed DD2’s Bestie’s one hour kimono and am very happy with it.image image

Next was to be my Bestie’s but something told me to do mine first …… Jolly good job too!

Both are to be made from a chiffon/georgette. Diving in head first, all was going well but then CRASH. …. BANG ……. WALLOP!  The neckline.  Yuk, it is heinous .  The picture doesn’t show how truly ugly it is BUT at least this faux pas is on my kimono.

image

I usually prepare very well but think I had become a little nonchalant  with all the practice I’ve had and didn’t stop to think about the life of chiffon.  It simply doesn’t lend itself to the cheat method and had I bothered to think on it I would have known that ….. Silly billy!

So I will have to unpick the neckline and make a good old-fashioned facing to ensure a beautiful finish and of course one I can live with.

The positive I guess is I have learnt one new way you can’t sew chiffon…… Quickly 🙂

Note to self:

Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.

Bank Holiday Monday will be spent rectifying Sunday’s screw up.

Happy weekend my lovelies x

On Your Marks, Get Set, Goooooo

Seems I have had my machine for a year…. Where did that time go? Still love as much as day one.

Have yet another one hour kimono on the go! AND another 3 cut out.  Fortunately it is a Bank Holiday weekend here in the UK so have some extra time which is handy as I really do want to get these done.

Finished one here is for my niece, the 3 that are on their marks …… Bestie, DD2’s Bestie and MEEEEEEE!  Yes indeedy am actually doing one for oneself 😉

Will pop some pictures here when they are done so you can see how one simple pattern can look so very different dependant on fabric type and design.

have a crafty one …… Weekend that is 🙂

Let’s Bite Off More Than I Can Chew ….

Given the lack of crafting in recent months I am now going from daft to ridiculous 🙂

The one hour kimono went down so well with DD2 friends I now have several ‘orders’. Mates rates of course these are young adults who in my experience are always skint! That said it is flattering that they think my first effort in an age is worthy of their purse and wardrobe.

More walthamstow stash ... Lovely Georgette. Perfect for the job.

More walthamstow stash … Lovely Georgette. Perfect for the job.

The little bag I made from vintage fabric last year is also perfect for keeping this project in …. I sort of knew what I was doing when a I had my spendathon last year.

To think I really didn't like this fabric when my darling friend R chose it yet now it's my most favourite ;)

To think I really didn’t like this fabric when my darling friend R chose it yet now it’s my most favourite 😉

My other taskette is some body scrubs, the retail price is so frightening and I love pampering, waited patiently all week for my supplies to arrive and first scrub already made with Ylang Ylang, Bergamont and Lime for feelings of well being, anxiety reduction to name just a couple. Roll on bath time for a test run. Have used Epsom Salts as the exfoliant for the magnesium qualities. Will let you know how that goes.
image

One picture I wish I did have to show you was the truly Biblical weather we had an hour or so ago here in temperate Blighty. In an instant we went from bright sunshine to dark moody skies and winds like we never experience here. The Ash Tree in the neighbours garden bent almost in half, leaves were ripped from trees like tissue paper and debris was whooshing around ….. A remnant of Bertha maybe but it was scary, me and pup hid in kitchen watching from the window whilst my HH stood at back door ‘WOW, WOW, WOW’ was all he could say. Within a few minutes it was gone and the sun was back! Dangit no pictures though it so caught us by surprise.

Providing my momentum remains I should have some kimonos to share with you dear reader later in the week. Y’all have a super Sunday. X
