This is a 3 hour workshop that I run from the superb facilities at my friends haberdashery shop My Sewing Basket in Dunstable, Bedfordshire, England.
My attendees have little to no experience so we explore how to thread a machine, wind the bobbin, practice a bit of sewing in a straight -ish line and then I throw them right in.
Although at the beginning they are a little nervous a real comradery builds amongst them and before I know it the volume level is through the roof…..just where I like it!
By the end they start to turn through their cushion slips and I just stand back and watch their faces as the penny drops with them how this inside out thing really is a cushion cover, they insert the cushion pad and laughter is the over riding sound. How fantastic is that? To know I helped get them there.
Happy Faces Are My Favourite Thing

I must make mention to the lovely lady with the ‘book’ fabric. She came along with her own machine but didn’t know how to use it, she was rather nervous and we took it all nice a gently, at the end she waited so she could speak with me alone and said “I honestly can’t believe I have spent 3 hours with you and I can now use my machine and I am taking home a cushion I made all by myself”. I was just so thrilled, there lay the reward, happy faces. LOVE IT!

Another very happy lady who was delighted that inside 3 hours she went from zero knowledge to trainee hero knowledge!
